In Trinity, we are a people who love God passionately, love church zealously, and love souls relentlessly. We believe that people who step into Trinity will encounter God, experience life and impact our world.
By Pastor Gerald Tan
“Who we are” as Christians, as the church of Jesus Christ, is important because it establishes how we live our lives – it is both our identity and a lifestyle.
Who We Are: #1 We Are a Blessing
Genesis 12:1-3 (NIV)
The Call of Abram 1 The Lord had said to Abram,
“Go from your country, your people and
your father’s household to the land I will show you.
2 I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you, I will make your name great; and you will be a blessing; 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse. and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you. |
What we see in Genesis 12:1-3 is known as the Abrahamic Covenant – the first of several covenants that God makes with His people. In the Abrahamic Covenant, God promises that we will be blessed so that we can be a blessing to the families of the earth – a blessing to the nations. I have also preached about this in The Covenant Fulfilled.
In Galatians 3:14, the Apostle Paul reiterates the extent of Abrahamic Covenant:
“in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles [non-Jews], so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."
The Abrahamic Covenant was not just for the Old Testament and the Jewish people. Through Jesus Christ, this covenant and God’s blessings are available to every one of us.
We Are a Blessing to Our Nation
God promises that we will be blessed. With that comes the responsibility to release God’s blessing to our nation. We do this by -
Praying for our nation – As Christians, we often come to God in prayer because of our needs. While there’s nothing wrong with that, our prayers must extend beyond ourselves. The Bible exhorts us to pray for our government leaders and that the land we are in that we may experience peace (1 Timothy 2:1-4). We must pray to release blessings to the different industries and residents that are here. We must pray that the goodness of God will continue to flow and that everyone will be touched by God.
In Trinity, we have many platforms for prayer. From time to time, we issue a call to Stand in the G.A.P. where an SMS will be sent to you to intercede for our church and our nation. Monthly, we have Church Prayer Meetings and Morning Prayer for our early birds. We must rise in prayer! Make prayer a priority so that we can be a conduit of blessing.
Stepping into places of authority and influence – I thank God that many Trinitarians are strategically positioned in educational institutions and in the marketplace. Dare to carry the Joseph, the Daniel, the Esther anointing. Use your authority and influence not just for business’ sake, but carrying the authority and conviction that you are there to release God’s blessings into your spheres of influence.
Deciding to make a difference wherever God places us – With everyone we meet everywhere we go, dare to be a person that impacts our world. Even in little and simple ways, the world should be a better place because God has put you there.
We Are a Blessing to the Nations
The blessings of God are not just for our nation. The blessing of God’s covenant in our lives empowers us to be a blessing to the nations.
We release God’s blessing to the nations by -
Being a blessing where we are – When people from different nations come to our nation for business, for a holiday, or to make this place their home, we should be a blessing to them.
Being a blessing when we travel – Wherever we go for business or leisure, we can release the blessings of God throughout our trips.
Praying for our national leaders to be a blessing – We have been positioned to influence the region. Let’s pray for our governments to continue to be blessing to the nations.
Supporting Trinity’s missions en deavors – From our language ministries to missions impact trips to trainings and consultations, God continues to open doors for Trinity to impact the nations. Our missions endeavors keep growing because Trinitarians avail themselves to pray, give, and go. Let’s continue to be a blessing by offering our time, talents, and treasures. No one is too old or too young to bless the nations!
Who We Are: #2 We Are Christ's Ambassadors
2 Corinthians 5:13-14 (NIV)
13 If we are “out of our mind,” as some say,
it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.
14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. |
In these verses, Paul highlighted that because we have experienced God’s love, tasted His goodness, and know the reality of His power, we will be radical in our faith – so much so that people will laugh at us and call us crazy.
Love can cause us to do the craziest things. Search the internet and you can see stories of people who do nonsensical things in the name of love. We are crazy for God, but we are also in our “right mind” for the His people. We will give sacrificially and give the best of who we are to the Lord.
2 Corinthians 5:17-20 (NIV)
17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. |
We are commissioned as Christ’s ambassadors because we are compelled by Christ’s love and convinced by His sacrifice for all of humanity. So compelled that we will live radically as ministers of reconciliation – to bring people to Him.
Representing Christ to Our World
We represent Christ to our world by –
Being God’s prophetic voice to our generation – You and I are called to proclaim the love, power, presence, and peace of God. We are called to proclaim God’s truth, God’s healing, and God’s hope to a world that is full of darkness, hopelessness, pain, and bitterness.
Being God’s love wrapped in skin – You and I must tangibly demonstrate the love of God to the people around us. In a world of loneliness and hurt, we can bring the love of God through simple acts of kindness.
Presenting Our World to Christ
Beyond presenting Christ to the world, we also present our world to Christ. That means we have a responsibility to bring souls to God.
We invite them to church so they can experience God’s love, presence, and power – that God will be made real in their lives.
We invite them to our connect groups so that they can experience the life we have as a spiritual family.
We share articles and books, we share our testimonies. And most of all, we pray for the people around us. Make a conscious effort to ask, “can I pray for you?” Present their petitions to Christ so that they can see His power and His love manifest in deeply personal ways.
In 1999, the Columbine school shooting took the life of a girl named Rachel Joy Scott who had been actively living out a life of love for people. In her final essay, she wrote that, “Compassion is the greatest form of love humans have to offer…If one person can go out of their way to show compassion, then it will start a chain reaction of the same. People will never know how far a little kindness can go.” These words have challenged over 30 million people to do acts of kindness.
This is who we are: We are a blessing because God has blessed us. We are Christ’s ambassadors because God has called us to reconcile the world to Him.
So let’s walk in this blessedness. Receive so that you can give. Commit to releasing the blessings of God so we can be a blessing to our church, in our nation, and to the nations.
